About the Library

The Walnut Street West Library at 40th and Walnut Streets is a branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia that serves the communities of University City and Spruce Hill. It is one of the most used branches, offering a large collection of books for children, teens and adults as well as book and music CDs, DVDs, magazines, and free Internet and computer access.

University City residents enjoy many library programs including ESL, Chess and Computer Literacy classes that are not only educational but also a great way to connect with other community members. To learn about upcoming events and programs, visit the calendar page.
